Summer Student Employment Opportunity

Seasonal: May to August 2024 (Max. 15 weeks)
Rate: $18 to $22 per hour

Airport Labourer : Grass cutting, whipping, assisting with airport operations, as well as any other labourer duties required.

Beautification Labourer: Grass cutting and whipping of parks and fields, planting and maintenance of flower beds, painting, cleaning, garbage collection and other duties as assigned.

Cemetery Labourer: Grass cutting, whipping, assisting with burials, installing cement foundations, as well as any other labourer duties required.

Tourism Advisor

The Tourism Advisor will be responsible for the daily operations of the local museum and travel information centre (Welcome Centre). This role is pivotal in showcasing our community positively and welcomingly. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, offering essential travel information, responding to inquiries, and promoting local attractions and activities. The Tourism Advisor will conduct guided tours of the museum and gallery, share local history and insights, and facilitate sales in the gift shop. They will assist in event planning and coordination, create promotional content, and actively use social media to boost engagement, brand visibility, and encourage tourism and overnight stays. May perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Fluent in both official languages

Public Works Engineering: Assist the Asset and Capital Manager in gathering relevant information; Assist in the review of construction projects; Assist in the creation of AutoCAD Drawings and Assist in the topographic surveying.

Administration and Special Projects: Assist in the coordination of activities associated with the evacuation program and provide administrative support for various municipal departments.

General Manager of Protective Services & Fire Chief
Management Position

Permanent, Full Time: Salaried Position
Annual Salary: as per established senior management salary band

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), The General Manager of Protective Services is responsible for the effective operation of the Kapuskasing Fire Department (KFD). This role is mainly administrative in nature, supervisory oriented and involves the responsibility for the planning, coordinating, operating and efficiency of the KFD while allowing considerable exercise of independent judgment. The General Manager of Protective Services carries out the statutory and regulatory duties assigned to a Fire Chief (Chief Fire Official), Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) and oversees the Occupational Health and Safety for all municipal employees.

Qualifications:

• Diploma or degree in Fire Services Management, or related field along with five (5) years of experience in a senior leadership position as a Fire Chief or Deputy Chief and management experience.
• A valid “DZ” driver’s license and ability and willingness to travel within and outside the community as required.
• IMS (Incident Management Systems) training is an asset.
• Excellent knowledge of fire related legislation including the Fire Code, the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, and related policies, procedures & best practices.
• Excellent verbal, written, report writing and presentation skills, Bilingualism is an asset.
