Unlike most communities that develop haphazardly, Kapuskasing was a planned town. It was deliberately constructed by Alfred V. Hall who based his design on Ebenezer Howard's theory of "Garden Cities". Due to this specific design, Kapuskasing is known as "The Model Town of the North".
