Kapuskasing is surrounded by many small communities and acts as the service centre to a population base of approximately 15,000. It is centrally located in Northern Ontario with near equal distance by air from Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and North Bay - all major northern urban centres.
