Healthy Community Kapuskasing encourages residents of all ages to get active, get engaged with the community and work together towards an even healthier lifestyle.

We are committed to doing everything we can to connect you to the public resources that can help you get involved - by providing you with information, access to public facilities and help in boosting awareness of your events. Supporting local people and businesses who want to spread health and well-being will benefit all of us and make our community stronger.

Healthy Kids Community Challenge

Kapuskasing is one of 45 communities across Ontario taking part in the Healthy Kids Community Challenge. This initiative supports the well-being of our children and will help shape Kapuskasing into a community where it's easy for children to lead healthier lives.

Through this initiative, Kapuskasing receives resources from the Ontario government in the form of funding, training and social marketing tools to help promote:

  • healthy behaviours for children
  • healthy eating
  • physical activity

Benefits for children and families

  • close links to supports within the community
  • more chances to be involved and included
  • skills for staying active and eating well
  • support with making healthy choices

Visit the Healthy Kids Kapuskasing facebook page.

Tools and Resources

Healthy Community Kapuskasing encourages you to consult these helpful resources on healthy eating and active living.

Healthy Eating
Eating well is much easier with supportive information at your fingertips. Here are a few tips:
  • Consult Canada's Food Guide for a variety of healthy food choices.
  • For healthy and delicious recipes, visit EatRight Ontario.
  • Use EATracker to check your food and activity choices, analyze your recipes and plan your meals.
  • Assess your weight, eating habits and your level of physical activity here.
  • Healthy eating on a budget? Consult the Porcupine Health Unit.
  • The Eat Well and be Active Educational Toolkit is designed to help those who teach groups of children and adults about healthy eating and physical activity, and encourage individuals to take action to maintain and improve their health.
  • Find more healthy eating resources here.

Questions on healthy eating? To talk to a registered dietician at EatRight Ontario by calling toll-free 1-877-510-5102.

Active Living

Physical Activity Guides & Guidelines

Canada's physical activity guide teaches us that being active is fun at home, at school, indoors or outdoors. Download the following Physical Activity Guides for:

  • Youth
  • Older Adults

How often should we be active? What activities are recommended? Find out by consulting the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines for your age group:

  • Early Years (0-4 years)
  • Children (5-11 years)
  • Youth (12-17 years)
  • Adults (18-64 years)
  • Older Adults (65 years and older)

Get Involved

Our community has a lot to offer and we want to make it easy for you to take advantage of public facilities with your family, friends, neighbours and co-workers. Start teaching healthy cooking classes and we'll help you find a kitchen. Organize a bike race and we can help with the traffic control or provide necessary equipment. We have access to a wealth of public services and information and want to help you make use of it. These resources and facilities are called public property for a reason: they are there for you.

  • Connect with dieticians, statistics and published nutritional information
  • Locate public kitchen, meeting places and speaking venues for your events, classes or discussions
  • Help with traffic managements, planning and logistics
  • Access to trails, parks, streets, playgrounds and sporting facilities
  • Link with transportation for organized activities
  • Support for marketing and promoting your event
