Airport Facilities
The Kapuskasing Airport is
located on Highway 11, 1.5 km west of the town. It consists of a 5,500 ft runway, a
modern terminal, hangars with ample room to accommodate private aircrafts and carriers,
fuelling amenities, maintenance facilities, customs services and car rental
agencies.
Bearskin Airlines is Kapuskasing's main air transportation
provider. It offers the community several connections to Air Canada. Including a
mandatory stop in Timmins, the flight from Kapuskasing to Toronto takes approximately 2.5
hours. Bearskin Airlines also provides daily flights to Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste.

Main Highways
Highway 11 crosses Kapuskasing from east to west, linking
itself with Highway 17 at regular intervals via secondary roads. It intersects directly
with Highway 17 in North Bay and again in Thunder Bay. Highway 11 tends to
be favoured by transport truck operators because it runs along level topography. The
highway is a major transportation route in the province and is maintained accordingly. The
speed limit is 90 km/h.
Highway 655 intersects with Highway 11 in Driftwood,
approximately 99 km east of Kapuskasing. It also intersects with Highway 101 in
Timmins, approximately 175 km southeast of Kapuskasing. Highway 655 provides ready
access to both Timmins and Sudbury, 493 km south of Kapuskasing. It is paved and
well-maintained. The speed limit is 90 km/h.
Highway 631 intersects with Highway 11 approximately
150 km west of Kapuskasing and with Highway 17 at White River. This is a secondary
highway which crosses picturesque landscape. Highway 631 is also paved and
well-maintained. The speed limit is 80 km/h.
Highway Carriers
The Ontario Northland Transportation
Commission operates regular bus service both east (south) and west (north) through
Kapuskasing several times daily. The community is also served by private transportation
companies available for charter. Several other freight carriers link Kapuskasing to
outside communities by providing both long and short hauls.
Railways
The Ontario Northland Railway
offers services between Kapuskasing and Toronto, transporting both freight and passengers
(includes a bus connection from Kapuskasing to Cochrane). The railway operates on a daily
basis, providing both day and night transportation to and from Toronto.
This provincially-owned
railway company possesses and maintains rail lines from North Bay to Moosonee, and Northwest to Calstock (144 km west of
Kapuskasing). The line connects to the Algoma Central Railroad in Hearst, and to both the
Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railroads in North Bay.
The Algoma Central
Railroad also operates daily, transporting passenger and freight between Sault Ste. Marie
and Hearst (100 km west of Kapuskasing).
