Kapuskasing is well-known for its
reliable winters that provide an abundance of outdoor activities. By December, snow blankets
the region with a thick covering that remains until March. Avid snowmobilers especially enjoy
winters in Kapuskasing. The dependability of the weather and the durability of the snow
are both ideal for snowmobiling.
By investing in its snowmobile trails,
Kapuskasing ensures that both residents and visitors benefit from superior riding conditions.
Responsible for the general maintenance and expansion of the local section of the provincial
trail network, the Kap Sno Rovers currently maintain over 200 km of trails. The trails are
groomed on a 24 hour basis during the snowmobiling season, extending for approximately 20
weeks. Each season volunteers put over 5,000 hours into preserving the trail
network.
Local groomed trails range from 20 to
30 feet in width. The snowmobile corridors are equipped with extensive signage, helping riders
to navigate through the network of trails. The trails cross a wide range of terrain and
scenery, making the ride very exciting. Although the many snowmobile trails cut deep into the
woods, they also cut back out to local communities for ready access to food, fuel, supplies and
lodging.
Kapuskasing is located in the center of
the OFSC (Ontario Federation of
Snowmobile Clubs) District 15 - a
region covered by 2,500 kilometres of groomed trails. The trails are open to all OFSC licensed
riders. Kapuskasing's snowmobile
trails are also linked to the Trans Ontario Trail which crosses Ontario from the Quebec border
in Ottawa to the Manitoba border near Dryden.
