New Official Plan

Kapuskasing and District Official Plan Update

The Town of Kapuskasing and the Kapuskasing and District Planning Board are updating the Kapuskasing and District Official Plan, the community’s long-term blueprint for growth, development, and land use.

The Official Plan guides decisions about land use, housing, infrastructure, the environment, economic development, and more. This update will set a shared vision for how Kapuskasing and the surrounding planning area grow and change over the next 25 to 30 years, ensuring the community is well positioned to respond to changing needs, opportunities, and challenges.

This project includes a comprehensive review of the current Official Plan to ensure it is:

  • Reflective of local priorities, community values, and Kapuskasing’s unique identity
  • Supportive of sustainable growth and prosperity, including housing and employment
  • Supportive of a healthy, resilient, and inclusive community
  • Up to date with provincial planning policies and legislation
  • Practical, clear, and easy to use

Key dates and phases of the project are:

December 2025- February 2026 - Background Review & Proposed Policy Directions
January- May 2026 - Visioning & Strategic Directions
March – July 2026 - Draft Official Plan
June – September 2026 - Finalizing the Official Plan
